Erica Pettibone, a Resident of Lilburn, Ga., Recently Inducted Into Reinhardt University Chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists

Erica Pettibone, a sophomore sport studies major from Lilburn, Ga., was recently inducted into Reinhardt University's chapter of The Society for Collegiate Journalists.

The Society for Collegiate Journalists is the oldest national honorary collegiate journalism organization in the United States. It recognizes outstanding achievements in or contributions to journalism and strives to encourage good journalistic practices in undergraduate institutions. As a national honor society, its purpose is to: improve the quality of student media at the college level, teach the ethics, techniques and mechanics of such media and encourage student participation, and promote the understanding of and the support of freedom of student expression, including freedom of speech and press for all college students. The ultimate purpose of the Society for Collegiate Journalists is to provide a connected community of student journalists. This organization provides an opportunity to network with fellow student journalists as well as professional journalists in the field. The organization encourages an open dialogue and discussion of different aspects of the profession.

Selection for membership shall be based on the following criteria: (1) the candidate shall be a student in good academic standing on a campus where a chapter of the Society exists, (2) the candidate shall have worked for an accredited communications medium, (3) the candidate's work should demonstrate a commitment to the ideals of the profession, and (4) the candidate will be selected by his or her peers in recognition of significant contributions.
